Chevy Volt vs. Prius Plug-in: Which are you more excited for?

It looks like we'll get to see a production-ready Chevy Volt at the Paris Motor Show in October. We also recently learned that the forthcoming Toyota Prius plug-in will offer roof-mounted solar panels to run the air conditioning. As details begin to trickle in, which of the dueling plug-in hybrids are you more excited about?

Are you kidding?  The Chevy Volt is the best car to come out of Detroit since the 1964 Mustang (if it ever makes it into production).  That car will be incredibly successful in terms of sales and also as a boost to those made-in-America buffs.

Both! Renewable energy is the way to go, and there is no one quick fix.

 

Volt no doubt.

I personally consider Volt to be an Electric car (with gasoline range extender), not a Hybrid.

 Also Volt does not have one of the Cons you list for hybrids - drive is all electric so there are no more components.

Lithium battery makes the price higher though.

The Volt sounds great, but 40 miles doesn't even cover one way trek to work in LA for most people. I know that the battery isn't the only form of power for the car, but that might be a marketing downfall for the Southern California area.

The Volt for sure!  My main reason is that I always buy american cars.

Definitely the Volt. Each car should be evaluated on its own merits (I know some people will disagree vehemently) but there is something to be said about buying a domestic car, I really hate to see GM go into oblivion. By the way, will there be any new power plants built, if not I'm not sure our current infrastructure will support what I hope to be millions of new plug in cars.

 The Volt - hands down. Also, I just learned today the their V6 is expected to get 26 miles per gallon on the highway. That's about the same as a V6 Ford Mustang, but it is going to have the same horsepower output as a V8 Mustang!

 

Plus, it is very cool...

Plus with normal seasonal increases and the expected 20% rate increase for electric services coming...

I thought the point of a Hybrid/Electric car is to get good to great gas mileage. 26 mpg is not good. I like the volt, but the mileage better be in the 60mpg range considering Lutz said that is it going to cost 40 large. The 09 Prius is expected to get 60mpg for $25 grand.

Does anyone know what the expected range is for the Volt? With the numbers from SCE it's going to cost $8.40 a day to fully charge the Volt.
