    Honda Fit or smart fortwo?

Comparably equipped, the Honda Fit and smart fortwo are somewhat similarly priced. The five-door Fit is the more flexible and more energetic of the two, while the tiny smart car offers better fuel economy, turns more heads and fits in even more parking spaces.

If you had to choose one of them to drive for the next three years, which would you pick?

Conceived by Swiss watchmaker Swatch and designed in conjunction with Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, the Smart Fortwo microcar has been all the rage in traffic-choked European cities since its introduction in 1998.

Smart Fortwo may fit Europe. but not a good fit for US market, as large size vehicles, such as SUV, are still the favorites of Americans.

Having owned a 2008 Smart Passion, I will say it is a surprisingly well engineered vehicle. You will find many consumers complaining about the transmission. Most magazine editors, consumers and tire kickers don't know how to drive the Smart. The car technically has a manual transmission. Have you ever left your foot on the accelerator when shifting into the next gear? If so.....you will notice something bad happen. The car will not go smoothly into the next gear. Same with the Smart....Let off when you want the vehicle to shift, and reapply your foot to the accelerator. For optimum performance and making an extremely happy Smart, use manual mode and shift up let off the accelerator and reapply your foot to the accelerator. The Smart is a blast to drive, and ideal for urban dwellers. Regarding the 09 Honda Fit. It's a no brainer....Sporty, spacious, far superior to it's predecessor. Toyota also has the Yaris in both a 3 and for 09 is offering a 5 door. The B class segment is increasing in popularity by leaps and bounds. Whatever B class vehicle you decide to choose, it will hold a great deal of resale value throughout many years of ownership.

Whats the point of that? Just put a manual transmission in and stop trying to be "clever".  I enjoy seeing them parked face out from the curb when I'm in Berlin, but I'd never drive either in the US.

I actually test drove this car that my friend owns. I wont describe this as a nice experience: It is bumpy and uncomfortable.  I am not convinced the gas saving can outweight the discomfort.  My friend actually regrets now since the gas price has dropped almost 50% in Socal.

With the gas price drop to below $1.5/gallon, wonder who would still go for the small car?

maybe i'll go for honda fit... smart fortwo is a nice car, small and efficient but i prefer the bigger one though they looks real safe in the event of an accident.

I got a cover for my smart from Empire Covers. They give ratings for all their covers for how well it protects the car in four different categories, including sun. And there are always coupon codes floating around for that site.

Not sure if you want to go to the trouble of covering the whole car every time you park though. I think the sunshade would be a lot easier.

Yes, I would go for Honda fit instead.  Safety comes before fuel savings. Although I dont have any safety data against Smart fortwo, it just doesnt look as safe as other bigger car.  It is the perception :-)
