Electric Car Highs and Lows: What's your opinion?

Now that gas-electric hybrids have so efficiently nudged their way into the mainstream, is all-electric the next logical step?

I predict that in the near future the all electric car will eventually dominate the streets of our country; all that's needed is an increase in battery efficiency, smaller size and lower cost.

And more imported nat gas to generate the electricity to run the electric cars. Not exactly a move toward energy independence.

Hmm.. sufficient electicity to recharge an electric vehicle could come from solar powered recharging schemes. Most vehicles spend a good deal of time parked while the owner is working or shopping, and these times could provide opportunities to top up a battery.

And the electricity generated comes from what source? Further, sending electricity down the "grid," which is already antiquated and overtaxed, is possibly the most inefficient use of  power with the loss of nearly 12% in transmission. Electric vehicles will amount to less than 3% of total by 2020 and is no answer to getting off oil period.

thanks for the links. electric vehicle's high and low are definitely the priority here.. nube3r is right, since the problem goes to the battery itself, then the solution should be focused there.
